Sophie Mayer

Sophie Mayer is a full-time feminist film activist. She is the author of Political Animals: The New Feminist Cinema (IB Tauris, 2015), a co-curator with queer feminist film collective Club des Femmes, a founding member and web editor of Raising Films, a campaign and community for parents and carers in the UK film industry, and part of the F-rated ‘brains trust’.

Sophie writes regularly for Sight & Sound, The F-Word and Literal magazine with an emphasis on feminist, queer and indigenous cinemas and TV, and is also the author of The Cinema of Sally Potter: A Politics of Love (Wallflower, 2009). She has participated in discussions about women and film at BFI Southbank, Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, and Sheffield Doc/Fest, among others, and is the proud compiler of a spreadsheet of 500 feminist films from the 21st century.
