Natalie Wreyford is the full-time Research Fellow on Calling the Shots, contracted for three years.
Natalie’s research interests are centred on access to work and equality of opportunity in the creative industries with a particular focus on gender and film. She is concerned with the mechanisms that uphold inequality and the impact on what is seen on screen. Natalie recently completed a PhD at King’s College London that explores the gendered contexts of screenwriting work, in order to understand the underlying causes of continued gender inequality in film screenwriting. She has worked in the UK film industry for many years, including in a senior role at the UK Film Council, and commissioned one of the first reports into the lack of women screenwriters. Natalie has read, advised on and script edited hundreds of film scripts and worked with Academy Award-winners and those trying to get their first break.
