Sarah works in the Centre for Moving Image Research (CMIR) at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol. She is the Producer of CineFest, the first and only festival of cinematography in Western Europe. With its mix of masterclasses, workshops and panel discussions, the aim of the Festival is to raise awareness of the art, craft, practices and technologies of cinematography, and enable knowledge exchange amongst practitioners, from those working at the highest level in the industry to very early careers.
A key interest is in improving diversity within the production of moving image, as can be seen in the CineFest 2016 crew and speakers, Sarah’s current UWE-funded survey on Women in Media Industry Technical Roles (many thanks to support from Reel Angels, Illuminatrix, Women in Film and TV, and Creative England), the Arts Council England-funded strand on the Black Poetic Voice within Cinematography at CineFest 2016, and the CMIR bursary project. Through collaboration, raising awareness and visibility let’s change the industry for the better!
