Founded by writer and editor Cheryl Robson and a group of women writers in 1989, Aurora Metro Books is now run by a small, dedicated team taking it confidently forward into its third decade. It has for over 25 years been a champion for women’s voices through its commitment to publishing plays (both historic and contemporary) and new fiction by women. More recently, its non-fiction imprint Supernova Books has published a number of books exploring women’s contributions to the arts, including two collections of essays looking at women filmmakers: Celluloid Ceiling looks at those working around the world today, and Silent Women: Pioneers of Cinema those working at the dawn of the film industry.
